Lore of NamataI
REALM OF FALLEN GODS
Long ago, the abyssal moon shone upon empty waters. This moon orbited one of six planets connected through time and space by the Motherlands. On the surface of this moon arose an exile of the land of the ancients sent upon this new land for an unknown purpose. The original name of this new land, as well as the names of all of the exiles of yore, have been lost to time and translation. But some may call this first exile by the name of Akanua. This behemoth wove pearly sands into the endless pools of violently crashing waters spanning across the entirety of this unknown mystical planet. From these sands grew mountains and canyons of white stone imbued with many different colors. This magical labyrinth became what is now known as the Alabaster desert. Akanua, satisfied with his work, opened a temporary rift to an unknown place. The whereabouts of Akanua after the rift disappeared are unknown.
Many eons later, a lone exile, Urokawa, woke from a deep slumber and gazed upon a vast, white desert submerged in an ethereal underwater atmosphere as thin as air. The sand beneath her glittered like opal. The spell of the land put a fog on her memory, but what remained was her deep longing to return to her home. She soon realized that there was no way for her to ever return. Urokawa wandered the barren desert for many eons more before she witnessed the skies fracture, like rippling shards of winter's glacial waters. Out of the ocean sky came crashing down the ruins of a gargantuan fortress of Ice. The fortress was the last remnant of an ancient country lost to the secrets of time. Urokawa, after having endured many moons of nothingness, burst in excitement and ran in to explore the castle.
She was met with many puzzles, which she eventually solved. Within the deepest chamber of the fortress lay hidden a seed and an incapacitated woman. Many call the mysterious woman by the name of Yvel'yalo. Yvel soon woke to a curious Urokawa, who was shortly given an explanation which lingered into friendly conversation. No one knows what they spoke of, but many believe that Yvel and Urokawa developed a deep bond after.
The ruins became their home as they earnestly observed the deep ocean that formed as the fortress of Ice melted slowly. Yvel tossed the forsaken seed into the ocean. After a time, an iridescent colossus tree sprouted from deep down. The leaves fluttered in the waves of the sky, shimmering with every possible color. The minerals within the ice fed the tree and the land. The tree and the mineral's intrinsic energy gave rise to more plants, creating a boundless, ever growing garden.
With the arrival of the celestial garden, this new land of exiles, later named Namatai, became a realm teeming with mortal life.
Soon after the arrival of the seed, more exiles came from the lands beyond. Each new exile took a unique path in growing accustomed to their new life in this complicated, beautiful labyrinth. In total, there eventually resided 15 exiles, including the long forgotten and unseen Akanua. As eons passed, the glow of power within the colossus tree bloomed and radiated. The garden itself eventually granted enough mana for each exile to use unbelievable magic. These exiles towered above the tiny mortals, who looked up to them in amazement. Their grandiose displays of power caused mortals to revere them as gods. The influence of the exiles cultivated many different cultures. Some exiles even mated with mortals, leaving remnants of their power within their propagations. The exiles are now considered to be the source of all powerful magic by prophets and lorekeepers alike.
Though the exiles had their powers, they did not have their sanity. The land produced cursed spells and a twisted magic, as if the land itself was in defense of a powerful force making it ever so corrupt by the moon. The once stable power within sands of alabaster spiraled out of control as it ebbed and flowed with the celestial mystery of the iceborn minerals and the colossus tree of Yvel.
Both confused by the influence of a malicious or benign mysterious power that stoked the flames of passion and distraught with lingering memories of their home, the exiles of yore fought one another. Some fought in fits of anger and wrath with rivalries stemming from love or hate, while others fought in hopes of finding meaning behind their cursed cage. These warring exiles stood tall against each other as they formed factions and alliances. A mixture of deception, pride, greed, and a lust for entertainment plagued the exiles into forging an eternal war across the realm. Mortals who worshiped their fellow patron gods rallied behind their respective leader, dedicating their very lives to the war. This war brought about the destruction of many lands, the fiery ravaging of the sands beneath them, and the displacement of millions of souls. Death reigned supreme through eons upon eons of this chaos and destruction. And for whatever their reasons, the exiles have either disappeared or taken shelter in deeply protected fortresses. Witnessing their presence has became that of legend, yet mortals continue to hold their ground.
Millions of moons have passed, yet the war rages on, here and now, as the journey of Noma begins.
Somewhere out there rest relics from the lands beyond. Either by Akanua's hand or by arrival of the Seed of Yvel, these items are scattered and buried throughout Namatai. It is said by the Wandering Oracle of the Sands that these relics may unravel the secrets and memories of this land of fallen gods. This is the mysterious prophecy discovered by Isolesian grandmaster Oke'ane on her expeditions into enemy territory. Oke'ane, a now imprisoned traitor, has since passed this message onto the valiant Noma, who sets out across Namatai for her mother to find these relics, unite the lands and their exiles, and put an end to this eternal war.
A war everlasting, the suffering of all will never cease unless someone finds the key to salvation.
In an ocean of the unknown, the tides of freedom buds inside the heart of one mortal.
